How To Get The Most Out Of Your Valves & Gauges
Valves and Gauges are designed and manufactured to operate for an extended service life. Commonly though, relief valves remain inoperative for long periods of time. Gauges need to constantly remain accurate and dependable. Keeping this in mind, here are some suggestions to ensure you get the maximum life and reliability from your valves & gauges:
Valves
Valves should be inspected regularly for corrosion and leaks.
Vent lines should be inspected to ensure they are clear and discharge to a safe location.
Relief valves (or cartridges) are to be replaced every 5 years in accordance to industry codes.
Relief valves (or cartridges) that have discharged in service due to temporary over-pressure shall be replaced.
Gauges
Generally, a properly installed gauge should require no mechanical maintenance. If there is a clear indication of erroneous readings, the gauge should be removed and re-calibrated by a professional instrument service technician.
Keep the environment in which the gauge is operating as clean as possible. Contamination of the movement can occur and adversely affect a gauge’s performance. Replace any broken lens or case as necessary on the gauge to avoid foreign matter contaminating the gauge internals.
If cleaning of gauge internals is necessary, use fast-evaporating solution to remove dirt & debris from movement and linkages.
