ColonialWebb Employees in the Community

Greg Johnson, our Sheet Metal Fabrication Supervisor at our Richmond office is a busy individual that wears several hats. He’s a husband, a father, an active member in his church, and when he’s finished performing his duties at ColonialWebb he heads to his alma mater King William High School, where he is the head wrestling coach. This is his second season as the head coach and with the help of his community, parents and his wrestlers they are turning the wrestling program into a state contention program.

In 2015 the program was on the verge of shutting down because the school could not find a head coach to take it over. Instead of letting the program close its doors, Greg reached out to the Athletic Director, applied for the position and was later approved by the King William County School Board to lead the Cavaliers. When he took over the wrestling team they had a very poor morale/attitude problem, no real place to practice (they were practicing in the cafeteria) or any way of communicating to the parents and school administration. With the approval of the school board, help from volunteers, and no cost at all to the county, Greg lead his Cavaliers to having their first wrestling room. That season he rallied his team together and focused on building a family unit, not just a team. Focusing on the family, having their own place to practice, organizing the practices to focus on intensity and instruction paid off. That season they won the Conference 33 team title, placed 5th in their Region and 9th in the state. They left the State Championships with one All State wrestler and two State Finalists; the first time in 20 years that King William had two wrestlers in the State Finals!

This year was a rebuilding year for his team but they still had a successful season. They were crowned Conference 33 Champions for the second time, placed 9th in their Region and 11th in the State. They came home with two All State wrestlers from this year’s State Championships: one wrestler placed 4th and Greg coached his first State Champion.
